The all great comedian Bernie Mac died Saturday, August 9th, from pneumonia at the age of 50. This great tragedy struck the world including the writers of filmsceneworld. It was such a shock, that someone of his stature could have died at such an early age. He is one of the great comedians of our time, and is one of the original kings of black comedy. Born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough in 1957 in Chicago, but known as Bernie Mac to us, will always be remembered for the life he lived and for the legacy he left behind. And for one last time, from America to you Bernie, “WE WILL MISS YOU”. Rest In Piece.
This movie is about a monkey from the circus, (Ham III) who’s job is to be shot out of a cannon. He can’t help but to live in the shadow of his fathers accomplishments. Hes father was the first chimp to go to space back in 1961. When Ham III gets an opportunity for a space mission to go save a space probe, he obviously takes it as a chance to live up to his fathers legacy. After going through astronaut training and meeting two other very qualified chimps, Luna and Titan, they take off into space. Through their adventures they run into many conflicts, space creatures, and all other sorts of things. This is a nice animation, more of a family film. If your anywhere from 2-10 I see how this film might amuse you. As for me a grown man, I was more on the bored side.

The name says it all. Seth Rogen (Dale Denton, and James Franco (Saul Silver) starr in this Comedy/Crime Thriller. Dale a stoner who works as a prosseror for the private law firm witness a murder by a cop and the biggest drug dealer in town(Ted). He then runs over to his dealers house (Saul) for help. They run off on an adventure that leads them into the woods for the night. They do what any pothead and drug dealer would do, smoke weed all night. From there they go to the middle man(Red) between Saul and Ted. Red was already visited by Ted’s men and rats Dale and Saul out. There the chase begins all over again. Dale worrying for his 18 year old high school girlfriend comes over to their house. He relocates them and goes back to the chase. Funny points in the movie include, dealing drugs to elementary school kids, funny cop high speed chase, and other stoner scenes that stoners find funny. In the end Dale and Saul are at Ted’s warehouse and the Asian drug gang is outside waiting to strike at Ted. From there action goes down and I’ll leave the ending for you to watch.

In this thriller Uma Thurman plays a woman living with the dreadful thought of a school shooting she was part of several years before. The story follows a Columbine like massacre, which includes two teenage friends Diana and Maureen. Diana is a teen who smokes pot, gets in trouble, and sleeps around. Maureen on the other hand is a nice church girl, who’s a little more quiet then Diana. These two develop a wonderful friendship until they get caught in a bathroom while a school shooting is going on. The shooter comes in, and says one of them has to die. The story goes back and forth between Diana’s present day life and the past because its the 15 year anniversary of the shooting. Diana thinks about the day of the shooting and how the shooter had told them one of them had to die. This idea haunts her till present day. Now you would think the other girl had died, because Diana is obviously still here 15 years later. The end ruins everything though. The plot changes totally and makes you really confused. The movie was descent all the way to the end, but the end just brought forth confusion and will most likely make you pissed off. But for those of you who aren’t going to take my advise and are going to watch this crap of a movie anyway, go head. Ill save the ending for you.

In this exciting action filled movie John Cusack plays an assassin, who is set out to kill a man in Turaqistan. While over there he meets this reporter who he gets closer to by the bomb drop. They start talking about this and then, and finally one night they kiss. You know the usual movie stuff. John Cusack’s character has a boss, this is the guy the whole country follows because he promised to help them rebuild their homeland. Overtime he discovers some things about his boss, but I don’t want to give it away. Anyways John is supposed to kill this dude at ceremonial wedding of the Turqanian’s Pop Star, (Hillary Duff). Every time John sees this girl he gets a weird feeling in his stomach. So the story goes on there is war around them, their is conflict, their is fighting. Its a ok movie overall, but I do recommend you go see it.

To be honest going into this movie I wasn’t expecting much, and thats exactly what I got. The beginning of the movie didn’t keep my intrest at all, but it did get better towards the middle and the end. This movie takes place in Asia. It starts 2000 years ago with the fall of the Han Empire. There after Rick O’Connell and his wife Evelyn and son Alex go on an expedition. Alex discovers the tomb of The Dragon Emperor. He enters and finds the Emperor and his 10,000 soldiers. They are let out and the chase begins. Alex fights with the mummy and having to deal with his parents. The ending throws a curve ball, and overall it turned from a bad movie to an okay movie.

Is a comedy about to grown up adults, who are still living at home with their single parents. Brendan a 39 year old laid-off Pet smart employee, and has been pop star lives with his mom Nancy. Dale a 40 year old drummer lives with his father Robert. Robert and Nancy meet at a conference which Robert is holding. They hook up and decide to get married. After the wedding Nancy and Brendan move in with Robert and Dale. At the beginning Dale lets Brendan know the rules of the house and about his precious drum set. As the movie goes on they unite more and more. Finally the climax is when Brendan’s younger successful brother Derick shows up and gets punched in the face by Dale and plummets from the tree house. From this point after Brendan and Dale are best buds and enjoy doing everything together. They even choose to open up their own business together, “PRESTIGE WORLDWIDE.” Of course like every other comedy it fails, their parents get divorced because of them, and Brendan and Dale are forced to leave the house, grow up, get jobs, and be adults. After the split Brendan works for his younger brother Derick, while Dale is a caterer. The movie comes back together towards the end, when Brendan is left responsible for the “CATALINA WINE MIXER.” Everything is going smoothly, the music, the food, (compliments of Dale), and even their parents are hitting it up. One small remark by the performer sends the whole party crashing down. Now it is up to Brendan and Dale to save the day. Will they do it? You shall have to go and watch.

As many of you know the Batman movies are based off the comic book series. The Dark Knight is just another addition to the collection. The director Christopher Nolan does an amazing job portraying the dramatic effects of this movie. Don’t get me wrong this movie is loaded with action, fighting, explosions, the whole nine yards, but even with that comes along a lot of drama, some comedy, and just a great time. The Dark Knight begins with the Batman, ( Christian Bale), coming out and lighting the sky with his batman emblem. Gotham city is a crime oriented city, where the only one who could do anything about it is batman. Batman is soon to get some help though with the new D.A., Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) coming to save the day. Batman sees this as an opportunity to go live off his on life privately. He believes that if Harvey can lock up all the criminals he can go on his own way and marry the beautiful Rachel Dawes played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is currently intimate with Harvey himself. Through this action thriller drama a new villain is introduced the joker, ( Heath Ledger) who does a fantastic job. He is actually one of my favorite actors in this movie, too bad he wont be around anymore. Anyways the the good guys go against the bad guys, through out the movie. You know the usual. I don’t want to give away the ending, but lets just say this is a MUST SEE. One of the best movies of 2008, and its also our movie of the month.
